Tour de Tsitsikamma

3-NIGHT & 4-DAY MTB EXPERIENCE

Fully Catered, Guided, E-Bike friendly, Glamping Tour

Out of all the multi-day cycling trips and races across Southern Africa that I’ve done, this is probably my favourite.  It’s three days of relaxed riding along coastal cliffs, through indigenous forest, pine plantations and along mountain tracks and mountain passes.  The tented biocamps at the two overnight stops are beautifully located, and the food and logistical support are next-level.  Highly recommended

Welcome to Tour de Tsitsikamma, a 4-Day MTB experience seamlessly blending biking thrills, glamping accommodation, hearty meals and Garden Route tranquility.  This Tour is suitable for everyone – mountain biking maestro’s and those just getting started.  This experience caters for all ages and level of experience. Suitable for E-Bikes & mountain bikes.

It’s a proper tour of the best the Tsitsikamma has to offer.  Mountains, indigenous forests, rivers, winding tracks through pine plantations and traversing three iconic passes.  I want to go back and do it again!  Pierre Steyn

ITINERARY

Day 1: the tour starts at Firefly Falls Biocamp, where touring groups meet their crew and receive a brief orientation. Dinner is a traditional South African Braai outdoors – a convivial setting for shared stories, building excitement for the adventure.

Day 2: A brief breakfast followed by the shuttle to the start of the day’s ride.  Today, winding through sustainable forestry and indigenous sections, culminating in a final climb to the Tsitsikamma Mountain Bio Camp. Along the route, riders are able to pause and take in the scenic vistas and have a packed lunch against the backdrop of the mountains and forestry. The rest of the day invites relaxation, a very chilled walk and a refreshing swim in the hidden pools of the Lottering River. Dinner is served overlooking the tranquil mountains before turning in.  Glamping accommodation is decked dome tents, warm beds with solar lighting

Day 3: Cyclists descend the mountainous terrain to the coastal escarpment, hugging the edge just above the infamous Otter Trail, reveling in breathtaking coastal views before tackling the Bloukrans River gorge. The night is spent above the river mouth at the Bloukrans Biocamp with endless views over the Indian Ocean.

Glamping accommodation in decked tents with the forestry plantations behind us and the most amazing coastal view right below.

Day 4: the group is guided towards Natures Valley, a day considered the “champagne stage” of the tour. Easy riding through fynbos sections and down the Grootrivier Pass culminating at the Blue Rock Café, where groups gather for a celebratory snack and drinks with time to reflect on the past few days & the exhillirating adventure just enjoyed.

From Nature’s, the ride back to Firefly Falls is a chilled one through afromontaine forest and past dairy farms.

For those wanting to extend their long weekend, there is the option of spending an additional night at Firefly Falls (glamping accommodation, dinner and breakfast and even a hot bicarb bath for tired muscles).  Otherwise you can hit the road and head home after a hot shower or a dip in the pool.
